Good question! This is our first virtual WordCamp; we’ve played with the format a bit to give you the fullest experience. We have four virtual ‘stages,’ each with their own personality:
Front Porch
The mainstage, with broadly accessible talks. Sessions will be streaming on YouTube and can be viewed embedded on the Front Porch page or you can watch on YouTube.
Back Porch
More great talks, but slightly more technical than the Front Porch. Sessions will be streaming on YouTube and can be viewed embedded on the Back Porch page or you can watch on YouTube.
Kitchen
Fascinating talks that are slightly developer-focused but still accessible. Sessions are not streaming on YouTube — they occur in Zoom Meetings. Make sure you have the latest version of the app! There is a 100 person limit to these rooms (first come first serve). Visit the Kitchen page to learn more and grab the link.
Salon (Ask the Expert)
Do you have questions that you’ve been dying to ask a real person? Are you running up against issues and would like to talk it out with an expert? Our Salon rooms are topic-based Zoom Meetings where experts on business, social media, security, SEO, and page builders are available for your questions. Think of a thematic Happiness Bar.

Tickets for WordCamp online are FREE! We will be live-streaming WordCamp so you can participate from the comfort of your home. Friday’s PreCamp is a comprehensive guide aimed at helping beginners get a new WordPress site up and running, and will also be live-streamed for FREE.

Anyone who has knowledge worth sharing. If there are topics that you are passionate (or nerdy!) about, that enthusiasm will naturally carry through whether you are an experienced speaker or not. Of course, we also welcome applicants with polished public speaking skills, but it’s not a prerequisite.
Over half of the world’s websites run on WordPress — that means that the users are as diverse as humanity itself. From the owner of the neighborhood nail salon, to SEOer writing pillar pages on impact investing, to the developer deep in databases, to your grandma with her Italian cooking blog, most of us are WordPress users and each of us brings a unique perspective to the community.

Western North Carolina is a pretty amazing place–not only do we have mountains to hike, local craft beer to drink, and a foodie scene impossible to keep up with, but we have incredible folks. Our community is made up of people that are country, queer, fiber artists, suburban, Mexican, gutter punk, chair makers, Ukrainian, old timey, Cherokee, distillers, and every combination thereof. We’d like our speaker line up to be representative of us, not Silicon Valley.
Additionally, we recognize that in the tech industry writ large many groups are underrepresented; we’ve committed to focusing on racial representation this year, with an emphasis on Black, Indigenous and Latinx. That’s why we’ve included demographic questions in the form — because we’re trying to do right by our community.

We regret to bring you the news that we will no longer be hosting an in-person conference on July 17-19, 2020.
Our thoughts are with those whose lives and livelihoods are affected by the COVID-19 disease and the rapidly-spreading virus which causes it.
By this time, we doubt there is a need to expand further on reasons for cancelling the in-person event. However, we wish to express how sad we are to miss out on spending time with the amazing people who would have attended, volunteered, sponsored, or spoken at our event.
While the in-person event will not happen this year, our team is carefully considering the possibility of holding a virtual conference on or around the same dates in mid-July.
