Woohoo! The big day is here. Ticket sales are now live. In case you’ve never been to a WordCamp before, get ready to geek out. We are planning sessions for beginners, users, designers and developers, with speakers from western North Carolina and beyond, including one or two from the mothership itself!

Tickets are $40 and includes a t-shirt and lunch both days (Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1). Pretty sweet deal, huh?

Friday’s PreCamp is a separately ticketed event ($45) and is aimed at helping beginners get a live WordPress site up and running.

PreCamp

PreCamp is a hands-on session for those new to WordPress. Unlike WordCamp (Sat & Sun), which focuses on presentations by various speakers, PreCamp (Fri) is a do-it-yourself day.

Are you new to WordPress (or know someone who is) and want some hands-on support in setting up your website? PreCamp is designed to take you from a blank slate to a fully functioning website before you walk out the door. We provide almost everything* you need to get started – including a full year of hosting for your site thanks to the generous sponsorship of SiteGround.

If you’re a beginner who is wondering if this is the right place for you – the answer is YES! We have an amazing team of experienced WordPress users, designers and developers that have donated their time to make this an incredible learning experience for you that will definitely bring results. You’ll be guided through the steps needed to get your first website up and running. And we have enough facilitators to step in and provide some individual support if you get confused along the way.

In order to pick one of the best venues to host WordCamp 2014 in Asheville, we have decided on the business structure which mimics what we are all about: collaboration.

The BASE at AB Tech, a small business center which strives to inspire collaboration, guidance, and resources for the community, is our venue for this year. This center offers free classes  by other businesses in the building as well as guest speakers, encourages open dialogue from one office to the next, and collaboration from one project to another. The deadline is approaching quickly for speaker submissions! If you’ve been on the fence about what to propose, now is the time to finalize your idea and send it to us. If you’d like to talk at WordCamp Asheville but need a little push, feel free to contact us and we can let you know what requested topics haven’t been covered — but hurry, you’ve got until Monday, March 31st.

Put Saturday May 31 & Sunday June 1 on your calendar! And sign up for Email updates (subscribe on right-hand sidebar) so you can be first in line for tickets to the very first WordCamp in Asheville.

We’ll also have a beginners PreCamp on Friday May 30th. This will be a separate, ticketed event that offers a hands-on experience to create your own website with the help and guidance of experienced volunteers. If you’re new to WordPress and want to get your first website up and running, the PreCamp is a great place to fast-track your website. If you are also attending the Saturday & Sunday WordCamp, you’ll learn even more about how to tweak your website in our beginner and designer tracks.
